How to choose tile?
It is very important to know little bit about the tile before choosing the one & subsequent questions will help you understanding the same, though there are certain basic tips that will help you while you are in the market. a. Always know your home/flats and it's room/spaces try not to go against the style of your room-work with it. b. Tile sizes should be chosen as per room like small sizes for kitchen & room, while in living and bedroom which are relatively larger you can experiment with sizes. c. Color: Consider how you want overall ambience to be like serene, calm, or mood specific, until there is any highliter area, try using same color family for over all cohesive inviroment d. Grout: Grout size and color play very important part in creating overall ambience if you want to highlight tile shape & design contrasting color works, while if you want subtle & seamless feel e. Texture & pattern: Glazed tiles provide plethora of finishes, patterns and textures, it isvery important to choose tiles which not only complements room & overall amabines but finishes which suits it's functionality, while polish & matt finish suits kitchen, bathroom & overall floors where cleaning is more importnat, you can choose plethora of finsihes in other walls. Rooms where there is less direct natural light or darker areas gloss finish tiles or tiles with lighter shades work well, while in bedroom you can highlight a portion while rest of the area can be little little lighter tiles in similar shades.
What is Ceramic Tile?
Ceramic tiles as the name suggest are made up of clay, though with continous innovation and technological breakthrough more elements are added to make it more reliable and durable. Glaze is applied in the surface which helps not only protect the ceramic body but also helps in experimenting with wide varity of color & applications.
What is Vitrified Tile?
Vitrified tiles are very similar to ceramic tiles but with very low porosity and works as perfect alternative to granite, stone & marbles. These tiles are manufacturued with clay been mixed with quartz feldspar and silica before heated in the kiln. These extra ingredients melt, creating a glass element making it very hard and resistant to any type of absorption.
What is the difference between Ultra charge & soluble salt?
Ultra Charge also know as double charge is a vitrified tiles two colors on the tiles bisque are press feed and makes a thick layer of design on top of it (tiles are passed through a press that prints the pattern with a double layer of pigment). So such design layer becomes 3 to 4 mm thicker. This makes double charge vitrified tiles ideal choice for heavy traffic commercial projects. Single charged tiles are nothing but basic vitrified tiles with a 1mm glazing at the top(Just before the tiles are fired upon, liquid colour screen printing is done on them. Soluble salts are added to the colour, which form different patterns, shapes and designs). Normally, we don't get much designs in this. And all the tiles are ivory based.
What is Nano polished Vitrified tiles?
Nano polished vitrified tiles: If we apply a layer of liquid silica on vitrified tiles then it fills the micro (nano) pores on the tiles surface and makes it smoother in feel. This type of tiles is called nano polished vitrified tiles. Nowadays most of the factories in Morbi offer nano polishing for soluble salt tiles so fewer pores are visible and tiles looks more shiny & smooth.
What is the difference between wall & floor tiles?
As such no tile is manufactured specifically for wall & floor but there are set standards like durability, strength & water absorption which determines how many foot steps a tile can hold apart from that type of application done on glazed surface also determines it's functionality, ties with heavy punch and mostly rectangular tiles are universally accepted for wall where as matt & gloss tiles with vitrfied body and PEI more than 3 are accepted for floor tiles. To know more about PEI or group please refer as follows The tiles are a few different scales and classifications of tile strength, but the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating is probably the most commonly used. It rates tiles on a scale from zero to five, and each rating has criteria for their suggested use based on the wear and tear they can handle. Let’s take a look at it in a bit more detail:
  • PEI 0: Only wall tiles.
  • PEI 1: Mainly wall tile and floor with very low foot traffic
  • PEI 2: Floor but should be avoided with heavey items or heavey booth ideal for kitchen, Varanda
  • PEI 3: Well suited for livingroom, bedroom and practically anywhere inside home
  • PEI 4: Can withstand heavy foor traffic but still limited in application and styles
  • PEI 5: Practically withstand all traffic, be it indoor or outdoor like shopping mall, restraunt etc
What are different types of grout?
Grout plays important part in placing your favourite tiles. Grout has it's functionality defined according to usage and economy. It also helps adding to overall ambience. Basically Grout are to types Cementitious Powder mix or Cement based grout and Epoxy resin based grout. Both are available in various colors and shades. Epoxy grout is extremely durable and almost completely stainproof. Regular cement based grout isn't waterproof, so unlike epoxy grout, it can absorb water when it's wet and stain easily.
What tile should I use for outdoor?
Vitrified tiles are ideal for outdoor application, but you have to make sure either they are Unglazed polish tiles which are also known as Heavy duty vitrified tiles (*OTROoffers this range with name of Durastone, and are available in plethora of designs, patterns and colors) or colorbody stone finish tiles (OTROtesoro range offers many options in 600X600mm & 600X1200mm sizes), Vitrified Matt finish tiles including OTROZest series are also ideal choice for outdoor application
